Benazir Bhutto (21 June 1953 – 27 December 2007) was a Pakistani politician who served as Prime Minister of Pakistan from 1988 to 1990 and again from 1993 to 1996. She was the first woman to head a democratic government in a Muslim majority nation.

5. Hurricane Maria has left more than 15 people dead in Hard hit Dominica, the small Caribbean island's prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit announced on Thursday, Dominica, which is located near the French islands of Martinique and Guadeloupe, has been almost completely cut off. 


6. The rupee weakened by more than 50 paise, or 0.8%, against the dollar on Thursday. The rupee ended at a two-and-a-half month low, at 64.81 dollar.

7. Public sector firm ITI Ltd. on Thursday won a Rs. 7,000 crore deal from the Defence Ministry to deploy and maintain phase four of the Army's modern communication network across India.

"Valued at over Rs. 7,000 crore, we are very exicted to take up ASCON phase IV. The project will provide telecom solution and infrastructure with a warranty period of two years and maintanced support of the network for eight years after the warranty," said ITI chairman and managing director S. Gopu

The ASCON ( Army Static Switched Communication Network) was established by ITI 25 years ago.

9. Tata sons won backing to become a private limited company and will be rechristened as Tata Sons Private Limited as a majority of shareholders of the Tata group's holding company voted in favour of the resolution at the 99th annual general meeting (AGM) held at Bombay House on Thursday.

10. Japanese tech player Panasonic expects India to contribute at least 5% to revenues from its rugged devices segment on the back of demand from new verticals such as retail, telecom and healthcare.

11. Alphabet Inc.'s Google said it would pay $1.1 billion for the division at Taiwan's HTC Corp. that develops the U.S. firm's Pixel smartphone its second major foray into phone hardware after an earlier failure.

The all-cash deal will see Google gain 2,000 HTC employees, roughly equivalent to one fifth of the taiwanese firm's total workface. It will also acquire a non-exclusive licence for HTC intellectual property and the two firms agreed to look at other areas of collaboration in future.

12. Janet Louise Yellen (born August 13, 1946) is an American economist. She is the Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, previously serving as Vice Chairwoman from 2010 to 2014. 
Previously, she was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco; Chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers under President Bill Clinton; and business professor at the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business.
