1. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) is an Indian political party in the states of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. It is currently in power in Tamil Nadu and is the third largest party in the Lok Sabha.

Bharatiya Janata Party (of the NDA) is largest party holding an absolute majority of 282 seats out of 543. The Indian National Congress (of the UPA) could only manage 44 seats while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party from Tamil Nadu stand third with 37 seats.

2. AIADMK is a Dravidian party and was founded by M. G. Ramachandran (popularly known as MGR) on 17 October 1972 as a breakaway faction of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).

From 1989 to 2016, AIADMK was led by Jayalalithaa, who served as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on several occasions. 

The party has won majorities in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly seven times, making it the most successful political outfit in the state's history.

3. Rs 5, Rs 100 coins to mark MGR centenary


The Finance Ministry has notified the minting of commemorative Rs 100 and Rs 5 coins to mark the birth centenary of popular politician and former Tamil Naidu Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran.

Rs 100 coin will weigh 35 grams and yhave 50% silver in its composition.

Ramachandran, affectionately called MGR by his fans, was born on January 17, 1917. He passed away on December 24, 1987.

Regarding the Rs 100 coin, the notification said, " This face of the coin shall bear the Lion Capital of Ashoka Pillar in the center with legend Satyamev Jayate [in Hindi] inscribed below, flanked on the left periphery with the word 'Bharat" in Devanagari script and on the right periphery with the word 'INDIA' in English".

8. CPI inflation quickens to 3.36 %, IIP rises 1.2%


9. A consumer price index (CPI) measures changes in the price level of market basket of consumer goods and services purchased by households.

The CPI is a statistical estimate constructed using the prices of a sample of representative items whose prices are collected periodically.The annual percentage change in a CPI is used as a measure of inflation.

10. The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) is an index for India which details out the growth of various sectors in an economy such as mineral mining, electricity and manufacturing. 

The all India IIP is a composite indicator that measures the short-term changes in the volume of production of a basket of industrial products during a given period with respect to that in a chosen base period. 

It is compiled and published monthly by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO) six weeks after the reference month ends.


11. Bengaluru based technology services and digital transformation company Mindtree, on Tuesday, inaugurated its first international Digital Pumpkin innovation Hub located at its Warren, New Jersey (US) office.

Sean carter will write and helm the adaption, according to Hollywood Reporter.


13. British Director Peter Hall, who founded the Royal Shakespeare company in 1960 and is credited with the boom of post-war British Theater, has died at the age of 86.

Hall stayed at the Royal Shakespeare company until 1968, after which he became head of National Theater in 1973. 

14. Two scientists, James Allison of the University of Texas MD Anderson cancer center and Robert Schreiber of the Washington University School of Medicine, are among the winners of this year's Blazan Prizes, recognizing scholarly and  scientific achievements.

Both scientists has contributed to creating immunological treatment for cancers.
