2. Hurricane Irma is a weakening tropical cyclone that recently made landfall in the U.S. state of Florida as a major hurricane, and was the most intense Atlantic hurricane observed in over a decade. 

The ninth named storm, fourth hurricane, and second major hurricane of the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season, Irma has caused widespread and catastrophic damage on its track across the Atlantic, most of which was caused in the northeastern Caribbean. It is also the most intense hurricane to strike the United States since Katrina in 2005.

3. India's first full time women defence Minister and Second woman defence minister of India : Nirmala Sitharaman

Until now, the only woman to head India’ defence ministry was Indira Gandhi; first in 1975 and again in 1980-82.

Indira Gandhi, in full Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi, née Nehru (born November 19, 1917, Allahabad, India—died October 31, 1984, New Delhi), politician who served as prime minister of India for three consecutive terms (1966–77) and a fourth term from 1980 until she was assassinated in 1984.


4. India’s first all-women crew circumnavigation expedition named as Navika Sagar Parikrama was flagged off by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Goa.

This is the first-ever Indian circumnavigation of the globe by an all-women crew and shall attempt to circumnavigate the globe on Indian Navy’s sailing vessel INSV Tarini. 

Navika Sagar Parikrama will have stopovers at four ports - Fermantle (Australia), Lyttleton (New Zealand), Port stanley (Falk-lands), and Cape Town (South Africa) - for replenishment and repairs. It will return to Goa in April Next Year.

Skippered by Lt. Cdr. Vartika Joshi, (Rihsikesh, Uttarakhand), the all woman team has Lt. Cdr. Pratibha Jamwal (Kullu, Himachal Pradesh), Lt. cdr. Swati P. (Vishakhapattnam, Andhra pradesh), Lt. Aishwarya Boddapati (Hyderabad, Telaangana), Lt. Sh Vijaya Devi (Manipur) and Lt Payal Gupta (Uttarakhand) as crew members.

5. American Historian Nancy Htach Dupree, who dedicated most of her life to preserving Afghanistan's heritage, died in a Kabul hospital on Sunday aged 89.

6. The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLT) is a quasi-judicial body in India that adjudicates issues relating to companies in India. The NCLT was established under the Companies Act 2013 and was constituted on 1 June 2016.

The NCLT has eleven benches, two at New Delhi (one being the principal bench) and one each at Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai.
Justice M.M. Kumar, a retired judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court has been appointed as President of the NCLT. The NCLT Bench at Bangalore began functioning on 18 July 2016. 

7. The shape of water, a dazzling sci - fi romance by Mexican director Guillermo Del Toro, won the coveted Golden Lion at the Venice film festival.
